Programme Planner based in London 12 months Role Producing and maintaining plans for the programme and projects to a consistent and high standard Plans must Adhere to the DoI project lifecycle; Have a similar set of significant milestones; Ensure interdependencies are identified and managed; Ensure deliverables are identified and managed; Incorporate best-practice estimating techniques. Maintaining information in Microsoft Project and the DoI's PlanView management information system in conjunction with the Project Officer. The role will be developed further to incorporate resourcing of project plans and continual improvements to estimating and dependency management. The post holder will be required to lead on improvements to the planning specialism. The post holder will also be expected to identify planning issues and patterns affecting different projects and escalate them accordingly. There is a team of planners managed centrally within the Programme Management Office and available to all DoI projects, with whom the RTC Programme Planner must liaise. Project Managers retain responsibility for the content of their project plans. The Programme Planner must be prepared to use the planning functions on the PlanView Portfolio Management Tool, which is the standard method of managing and recording projects.
Essential The RTC Programme Planner will have expert knowledge of project planning tools. Will be expected to work closely with Programme Managers, Project Managers and Project Teams to undertake: Programme and Project Plan Creation & Maintenance; Resource Planning; WBS Creation; Product-based planning. Knowledge of: Critical Path Creation & Analysis; Baseline Creation & Monitoring; Filter Creation and Maintenance; Dependencies between Projects; Weekly / Monthly Progress Update Cycle Reporting Variances against Baseline Budget and schedule; ETC (Estimate to Completion) and EAC (Estimate at Completion); ACWP (Actual Cost Work Performed); BCWP (Budgeted Cost of Work Performed); RAG Analysis; Time Now; Global MPT. They also need to possess: Good communication and relationship building skills; Ability to plan own time, meet deadlines and prioritise workload; Persuasion skills to influence and encourage best practice; Proficiency management skills. Experience of working within a structured environment is essential, particularly one where there has been adherence to a project lifecycle based on a recognized project management approach, e.g., Prince2™.
