Large Energy Corporation looking for a System Administrator/DBA to work in Plymouth.

Mandatory Technical Skills Required

o Experience of Oracle8i, Oracle9i and Oracle10g.
o Ability to write and debug PL/SQL scripts
o Highly competent in Oracle database and SQL performance tuning
o Strong knowledge of UNIX operating systems preferably AIX
o Strong UNIX shell scripting
o Competent in supporting Oracle on Windows Server solutions.
o Oracle RMAN backup and recovery
o Disaster Recovery Experience
o Experience of standby database solutions


Desirable Technical Skills Required

o TSM client/server (and other backup) technology
o Experience of monitoring and alerting products such as Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) or BMC Patrol


Mandatory Business Skills Required

o The jobholder will operate using their own discretion and possess the ability to manage projects as directed by the Database Services Manager.


Desirable Business Skills Required

o The jobholder may occasionally be required to travel to other sites or to 3rd party sites as directed by the Database Services Manager or Team Leader.
o ITIL experience and/or certification


Role Requirements

The jobholder will monitor system availability, performance and capacity planning across specified platforms, as directed. Support will include both Production and Development/Test environments. Tasks will range from Software installations, database builds to production support and detailed performance problem diagnosis. This will also involve investigating new releases of supported software and recommending migration actions, where applicable. This may necessitate liaison with other departments including advice on new features or software enhancements. The jobholder will provide specialist support of corporate technical computing environment components. The jobholder will maintain approved and supported systems software following the IT change process and be responsible for problem determination and resolution in line with the problem process. The jobholder may be required to operate as part of a standby callout rota to ensure 24*7 availability of our critical systems; this will depend on resource utilisation and will be determined by of the Database Services Manager.
