The engineering team are responsible for developing custom applications to support our logistics systems, goods in and our e-Commerce stack. Longer term, the team will take a leading role in automating our manufacturing systems. We have huge expectations for what can be achieved with well developed, custom software, and intend to excel in this area.
Whilst the current team have achieved a great deal, they need to grow, and building a team will be a major part of this role. As well as hiring talented, experienced specialists from behemoths such as Netflix, we also believe in hiring junior engineers, straight out of university, and developing them into first class engineers. You will enjoy mentoring team members, and seeing them grow.
Reporting to the Head of Engineering and part of the Tech and Dev Leadership team, you will make decisions on the tools we need and the composition of the function going forward. This role will suit someone used to working in a rapidly changing environment, and comfortable working with a varied technology stack, supporting both hosted and cloud environments.
Build and manage the day to day running of a highly skilled engineering team Set direction to and mentor team members, developing their careers in a way that keeps them happy, and means the business always has the right skills Working alongside the Chief Architect, provide guidance on the right tools, languages and frameworks we should be using Build and maintain highly efficient logistics software Build and maintain our eCommerce platform, to include the website and in the future, iOS and Android apps
5+ years experience in a leadership role in software development, managing teams of up to 10 people 10+ years in software development total Experience with C#, Java, Go; basically any modern OO language Experienced using multi-platform infrastructure, hosted, cloud etc. Experience with SQL Server a bonus Experience with hiring, and rapidly scaling a team in a short time Ability to context switch between multiple projects and prioritise time to meet deadlines
